Shrem.az reports with reference to the website science.gov.az that the president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli got acquainted with the archaeological excavations conducted by the Institute of Archeology, Ethnography and Anthropology of ANAS on Beshbarmag mountain.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli, president of ANAS, who met with archaeologists in the area of excavation, emphasized that archaeological research is of great importance in the deep and comprehensive study of the history of Azerbaijan.

Academician Isa Habibbayli pointed out that based on the tasks set by the President of the country Ilham Aliyev for Azerbaijani science, purposeful and extensive reforms are being continued in the Academy, researches on a number of new scientific directions that respond to modern challenges have been started. He noted that studying it in this way will make a great contribution to the development of inter-science relations. In the Academy, which already responds to the national interests and modern realities of our country in all directions, and has confidently embarked on innovation, a number of important decisions have been made in archeology and historical sciences, along with other fields, new structures that have been improved at the expense of the internal capabilities of scientific research institutions, without requiring any financial resources. The head of ANAS, stating that it was created, expressed his confidence that important scientific results will be achieved at the Academy, and that archeology will play an important role in this direction.

Director of the Institute of Archaeology, Ethnography and Anthropology v.i.e., Doctor of Philosophy in History, Associate Professor Farhad Guliyev gave general information about the expedition on Beshbarmag mountain to Academician Isa Habibbeyli, emphasizing that the President of ANAS was first-hand acquainted with archaeological excavations during the 78 years of the Academy's existence. .

Elshan Mustafayev, the adviser to the chairman of the Reserves Management Center of the State Tourism Agency, spoke in detail about the historical places in Beshbarmag Reserve and the new favorable conditions created for walking and religious pilgrimage.

Sevinj Huseynova, head of the Beshbarmag archaeological expedition, senior researcher of the Institute of Archaeology, Ethnography and Anthropology, and Safar Ashurov, archaeologist, doctor of historical sciences, gave comprehensive information about the ancient historical settlements discovered during the archaeological excavations in the area and the examples of material culture found there.

It was reported that the creation of "Beshbarmag Mountain State, Historical-Cultural and Nature Reserve" by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on June 8, 2020 created a wide opportunity for the archaeological study of Beshbarmag Mountain. According to the agreement signed between the State Tourism Agency and the Institute of Archeology, Ethnography and Anthropology of ANAS, archaeological research has been started in the territory of the reserve since 2020, and a number of important scientific results have been obtained as a result of the archaeological research, which continues today.

It was noted that the main goal of the first scientific research conducted in the reserve territory by the Beshbarmag archaeological expedition led by Sevinj Huseynova, a senior researcher of the Institute of Archeology, Ethnography and Anthropology, with the financial support of the State Tourism Agency, is to determine the architectural features and period of the Beshbarmag fortress, defensive wall and other buildings. . As a result of archaeological research, it was determined that both Terrace I and Terrace II were surrounded by the fortress wall. Buildings inside Naringala were opened and certain scientific results were obtained. Buildings built in a quadrangular plan with a corner and a chimney do not differ much from each other in terms of construction features and construction materials. 17 rooms were found on the first terrace, and 4 rooms were found on the second terrace and were included in the study. Despite the fact that the obtained archaeological materials mainly belong to the Middle Ages, examples of material culture reflecting the characteristic feature of the Early Bronze Age were also discovered, which indicates that Beshbarmag mountain was a place of worship for the people living in the region from the 3rd millennium BC.

Having familiarized himself with the working conditions for field research, after inspecting the excavation sites and the material culture samples found here, the president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, stated that archaeologists will always be fully supported and gave appropriate recommendations and tasks to the management of the institute. While forming the composition of the expeditions in the next season, the head of ANAS considered it appropriate to include an anthropologist and an ethnographer, one person each, and expressed confidence that this would lead to the creation of new scientific schools.

Also, after the end of this year's archeological excavation season, it was organized for the first time in ANAS
