On July 3, 2026, within the framework of the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the celebration of the 120th anniversary of Latif Karimov and the relevant decision of the Presidium of ANAS, a scientific seminar dedicated to the outstanding carpet weaver-scientist Latif Karimov was held in Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS entitled “A perfect connoisseur and worthy successor of our national and cultural heritage”.
Opening the seminar, the director of Sheki Regional Scientific Center, Doctor of Philology, docent Kamil Adishirinov spoke about Latif Karimov’s invaluable services in the development and study of Azerbaijani carpet weaving art. He said that Latif Karimov’s rich scientific heritage is of great importance in terms of protecting our national and cultural wealth and passing it on to future generations. Kamil Adishirinov noted that even today, the scientist's fundamental research remains relevant as a reliable scientific source for carpet experts, art critics and cultural heritage researchers. He drew attention to the importance of such seminars in promoting national and cultural heritage, increasing interest in carpet weaving among young researchers and studying Latif Karimov's rich heritage in more depth.
Later, the head of the Literary and Cultural Environment and Folklore department of Sheki Regional Scientific Center, PhD in philology, Irada Yusifova, made a report on the topic "The Latif Karimov Phenomenon in Carpet Weaving". The speaker said that Latif Karimov, in addition to being one of the founders of Azerbaijani carpet weaving science, rendered important services in the scientific study, classification and international promotion of national carpet art. He laid the foundation for a new stage in the development of the science of carpet studies with his fundamental research on the semantics of carpet ornaments, compositional features, color system and regional carpet weaving schools.
Irada Yusifova noted that Latif Karimov's three-volume work "Azerbaijani Carpet" is considered one of the most authoritative scientific sources in this field and still retains its scientific significance for researchers today. The report analyzed the scientist's attitude to carpet art, which preserves the national memory, aesthetic worldview and spiritual values of the people, emphasizing that he valued the Azerbaijani carpet not only as an example of decorative and applied art, but also as an example of rich heritage reflecting the history, ethnography and cultural identity of the people.
