A seminar entitled "Poetic Chronicle of a Lifetime - Samad Vurgun" was held in Sheki RSC

On June 25, 2026, a scientific seminar on the topic "Poetic Chronicle of a Lifetime - Samad Vurgun" was held in Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS in connection with the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the People's Poet Samad Vurgun" and the relevant decision of the Presidium of ANAS.

Opening the seminar, the director of Sheki RSC, Doctor of Philology, docent  Kamil Adishirinov provided extensive information about the rich literary heritage of the People's Poet Samad Vurgun, his exceptional services in the development of Azerbaijani literature, and the role of his creativity in promoting national and spiritual values. He emphasized that ideas such as patriotism, humanity, national identity and attachment to the homeland are brought to the forefront in the poet's poetry, noting that his works remain relevant today.

In his speech, Kamil Adishirinov also spoke about Samad Vurgun's trips to the North-West region, the influence of the nature, historical and cultural environment and people of this ancient land on the poet's creativity. He noted that the poet's deep sympathy and love for this region were reflected in various speeches, memories and creativity.

Kamil Adishirinov emphasized that the poet played an important role in the formation of Azerbaijani culture and literary thought, and that his creativity played a significant role in educating the younger generation in the spirit of love for the homeland and respect for national values, and gave the floor to Irada Yusifova, head of the department of Literary and cultural environment and folklore, PhD in Philology.

Irada Yusifova gave a report on the topic "The Image of Samad Vurgun in the Zagatala Press". She spoke about the issues of promoting the heritage of Samad Vurgun in the Zagatala press, and in particular, provided detailed information about the materials regularly published in the "Red Flag" newspaper on the life, creativity and social activities of the People's Poet. She noted that important articles were published on the pages of the newspaper to promote the poet's works, poems dedicated to him, celebrate his anniversaries and study his literary heritage, which played a significant role in introducing Samad Vurgun's heritage in the region and passing it on to future generations.

The speaker also spoke about Samad Vurgun's visit to Zagatala together with prominent Soviet writers and, and the echo that this meeting created in the literary and cultural life of the region. Irada Yusifova said that this visit was widely covered in the press of the time and served to strengthen literary relations between Azerbaijani and Soviet literature.

It should be noted that the periodical press materials involved in the research is of great importance in terms of studying how Samad Vurgun's literary heritage was promoted in the regions, the formation of public attitudes towards his work, and the perceptions that arose about the poet in different periods. The study of these writings allows us to study both the history of the promotion of the poet's literary heritage and the role of the regional press in promoting Azerbaijani literature.

At the seminar, Tarana Abdullayeva, a research worker of the Literary and Cultural Environment and Folklore department, delivered a report on the topic "Samad Vurgun's Dilemma in the Hard Test of Time". The speaker brought to attention her thoughts on the complex socio-political environment in which Samad Vurgun operated, the influence of Soviet ideology on literature, and the moral and literary choices the artist faced in these circumstances.

She noted that the poet, who lived and created in the 30s–50s of the 20th century, was forced to act in accordance with the ideological requirements of the era, on the one hand, and tried to keep the national and moral values, history, and spiritual world of the people alive in his work.

Tarana Abdullayeva emphasized that the ideas of love for the Azerbaijani people, patriotism, humanism and national self-awareness occupy a special place in Samad Vurgun's works. It was noted that it is important to move away from the stereotypes that have been formed over the years in relation to the poet's work and approach his legacy against the background of historical realities. She noted that the dilemma faced by Samad Vurgun reflects the moral and ideological choices inherent not only to an artist, but also to the Azerbaijani intellectuals of the time as a whole.

The speaker emphasized the importance of studying the poet's work in the modern era on the basis of new scientific approaches, and of objectively assessing his personality and activities, taking into account the socio-political realities of the time.
