Employees of the department of Ecological Geography of Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS - Head of the Department, PhD in Geography, Qafqaz Agabalayev, scientific workers Agil Mustafayev, Elvin Rustamov and another employee of the department Elvin Garayev conducted monitoring in the villages of Bash Layisqi and Junud in order to assess the ecological consequences caused by the intense atmospheric precipitation observed on 21.05.2026.
As part of the study, the erosion processes, soil cover degradation and surface washouts that occurred in the villages were studied. The main observations were carried out in the area between the villages of Shin and Bash Layisqi, especially in the entrance to the village, as well as around the Martyrs' Alley of Bash Layisqi village. As a result of measurements and visual observations, it was determined that strong water erosion processes were taking place in those areas, that washouts more than 4 meters deep were formed in some parts, and new stream beds were formed.
In addition, erosion processes were reviewed in both entrances to Junud village, and relevant measurements were carried out to assess geomorphological changes.
