Employees of Sheki Regional Scientific Center went on a folklore expedition to Zagatala

Employees of the department of Literary and Cultural Environment and Folklore of Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS, PhDin philology Irada Yusifova, research worker Tural Adishirinov and employee of the Center Shahmar Babayev went on a folklore expedition to the village of Yeni Suvagil, Zagatala district, in April 2026.

The purpose of the expedition was to study the rich folklore heritage, literary and cultural environment of the village, as well as the customs, occupations and ethnic characteristics of the local population.

The expedition members obtained information about the historical and social characteristics of the village at a meeting held at the village's secondary school No. 2. It was reported that 98 percent of the population is Sakhur, 2 percent is Azerbaijani, and the main areas of occupation are cattle breeding, sheep breeding and melon growing.

As part of the expedition, interviews were conducted with the village imam Agil Babayev, the chairman of the Elders' Council Geybulla Seyidov, the Executive Representative Ilham Mammadov, as well as Juma Mammadov, who is engaged in artistic creativity, and other folklore experts. Information was collected about the daily life, occupations, and customs of the local population. During the interviews, opinions were exchanged about Juma Mammadov's poems published in the "Anthology of Sakhur Poets", as well as the book of poems published after the death of Muzaffar Mammadoglu, a martyr of the First Karabakh War.
