The Azerbaijani scientific community and Sheki intellectual community have suffered a heavy loss. Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, member of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union, director of Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS, valuable intellectual of Sheki, Yusif Shukurov, died today in a hospital in Turkey where he was receiving treatment.

Yusif Shukurov, who dedicated his life to science, enlightenment and the development of scientific thought, was one of the influential scientists known for his contributions to both regional and national science. His rich scientific heritage and path of activity will remain an example for future generations.

I express my deepest condolences to the family, relatives, ANAS staff and the entire Sheki community of Professor Yusif, and I wish him God's mercy.

May his soul rest in peace and may his place be in heaven.
