During the research conducted by an employee of the department of History and Epigraphy of Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS in the territory of Mahamalar village of Balakan district, a new historical monument - an ancient temple was discovered. According to the senior scientific worker of the department, PhD in history Akif Mammadli, preliminary research was conducted and it is assumed that the monument belongs to the early Christian period.
He also noted that the temple has a single-nave structure in terms of architecture, emphasizing that although the building is built in a rectangular shape from the outside, the altar in the interior is distinguished by its oval shape. The monument is built mainly of river stone.
According to Akif Mammadli, part of the temple is currently buried under the ground, which makes it difficult to study it fully. However, preliminary observations indicate that the monument has significant historical significance.
The historian noted that the temple in question has not been mentioned in scientific literature and has not been officially registered to this day. It is planned to continue research and study the monument in more detail.
