On April 1, 2026, an online scientific seminar dedicated to March 27 - Science Day was held jointly organized by Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS and Lankaran Regional Scientific Center on the topic "Modern scientific challenges: tasks and prospects".
The moderator of the seminar, acting director of Lankaran Regional Scientific Center, PhD in History Jamil Guliyev noted that the establishment of Science Day is a clear example of the attention and state care shown by the President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev to Azerbaijani science, and emphasized that the main goal of the event is to discuss the current challenges facing science in the modern era, determine the development directions of social and humanities sciences, explore ways to improve the quality of scientific activity, and strengthen the role of young scientists in this process, and wished success to the event.
Speaking at the event, the Scientific Secretary of Sheki Regional Scientific Center, Vafa Atayeva, drew attention to the fact that the seminar also aims to exchange views on the reforms carried out in the field of science, the application of digital approaches and the definition of scientific priorities against the background of new realities. She emphasized that science is the engine of society's development, the key to tomorrow, a philosophy of life and a way of thinking in general, and that ANAS plays an important role in the formation of the country's scientific and intellectual potential.
Reports on various topics were heard within the framework of the seminar. Deputy Director of Lankaran RSC, PhD Samir Karimov spoke about the modern tasks facing social and humanities. Elvin Rustamov, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of Sheki RSC, touched upon the role of young scientists in scientific development and issues of state support.
The speeches stated that the reforms implemented in ANAS in recent years have led to the renewal of the Academy's activity directions. In particular, the application of new approaches in the development of the humanitarian and social sciences and the widespread use of digital platforms have been brought to the fore.
The speakers also noted that the new realities that emerged after the 44-day Patriotic War also affected scientific research. The speeches specifically mentioned the participation of scientists in the construction work carried out in the liberated territories.
Speaking during the discussions, the head of the Literary and cultural environment and folklore department of Sheki RSC, PhD in philology Irada Yusifova, and the head of Herontological research department of Lankaran RSC, PhD in biology, docent Sevinj Huseynova noted that holding this day gives impetus to the further development of the scientific environment in the country and has a positive impact on the increase in the interest of the younger generation in science.
In conclusion, the importance of the event was once again emphasized, stating that such scientific seminars play an important role in discussing current issues, exchanging experiences, and expanding scientific cooperation. The participants highly appreciated the work of the seminar, noting the importance of continuing such initiatives in the future.
