The first Scientific Council meeting of 2026 was held at Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS.
The members of the Scientific Council, heads of departments, and scientific workers attended in the meeting.
The meeting was opened by the director of Sheki RSC, PhD in Physics, docent Yusif Shukurlu, who greeted the participants, introduced them to the agenda of the meeting, and wished them success in their work.
The agenda was put to a vote and adopted.
The Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of Sheki RSC, doctor of philological sciences, docent Kamil Adishirinov, spoke on the first issue on the agenda and provided detailed information on "Decision No. 1/2 adopted by the Presidium of ANAS and the approved Action Plan" in order to implement the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev "On declaring 2026 the "Year of Urban Planning and Architecture". He said that within the framework of the implementation of the decision, work is being carried out regularly at the Sheki Regional Scientific Center to study, protect and promote the historical and architectural monuments of the northwestern region and will continue in the future. He noted that, according to the Action Plan, a republican scientific conference on the topic "Historical and architectural monuments and natural-geographical and ecological aspects of urban planning in Northwestern Azerbaijan" is planned to be held at Sheki RSC in October 2026.
The second item on the agenda was about planning scientific research work to be carried out at ANAS. Scientific Secretary Vafa Atayeva reported on "Approval of the scientific research plan of Sheki Regional Scientific Center covering 2026–2030 in accordance with the order No. 4 of the President of ANAS dated January 16, 2026." After the discussions, it was decided to send the scientific research plan to the Presidium of ANAS for approval.
The report of the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli on the topic "Calls of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in an interview with local television channels on the development of science and the tasks of the National Academy of Sciences" was reported by the Head of the Literary and Cultural Environment and Folklore Department of Sheki RSC , Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Irada Yusifova regarding the decision No. 1/1 of the Presidium of ANAS. She emphasized that scientific discussions were organized at Sheki RSC regarding the implementation of the decision, the main provisions of the report were presented to the employees, and an action plan was determined to implement the upcoming tasks.
The Scientific Council adopted a decision on approving the action plan.
The decision on "Establishment of the Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence Department on the basis of the Electronic Services Department of Sheki RSC of ANAS, at the expense of internal resources and existing staff units" was brought to the attention by Turala Agabalayeva the HR specialist of the Human Resources Department.
According to the decision of the Scientific Council, Namig Abdurahmanov was entrusted with the position of head of the department until the temporary competition was held.
On current issues, the composition of the Scientific Council of Sheki Regional Scientific Center for 2026 was approved by electing new members. According to the decision, the head of the Department of Ecological Biophysics, Doctor of Philosophy in Agrarian Sciences Ilgar Ismayilov, head of the Department of Literary-Cultural Environment and Folklore, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Irada Yusifova, and leading researcher of the Department of Archaeology and Ethnography, Doctor of Philosophy in History Valeh Alekperov were elected members of the new composition of the Scientific Council of Sheki RSC.
Then, the book “Theoretical and Applied Fundamentals of Biogeochemistry” by the head of the Department of Landscape Science of Sheki RSC, Doctor of Philosophy in Geology-Mineralogy Huseyn Mustafabayli was discussed and a decision was made to recommend it for publication.
