An event was held at Sheki Regional Scientific Center within the framework of the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty"

On September 9, 2025, an event on the theme "Religions call for peace and mutual understanding" was held at Sheki RSC within the framework of the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty" with the joint organization of Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS and the Sheki Regional Department of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations.

Opening the event, the Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of Sheki Regional Scientific Center, PhD in Philology, docent Kamil Adishirinov greeted the guests and participants.

He noted the great role of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, who was a peacemaker, in strengthening the environment of interfaith mutual respect, solidarity and trust in our country, and drew attention to the fact that this environment is an example for other countries.

He stated that the main goal of holding the event was to strengthen Islamic solidarity and educate people in the direction of calling for peace, and wished success to the event.

Then the floor was given to Saleh Mammadov, the leading advisor of the Sheki Regional Department of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations. The speaker spoke about the tolerant attitude towards representatives of other religions and solidarity between Muslims in Azerbaijan, common values, the importance of interfaith dialogue, the universal message of peace given by religions, the development of mutual understanding and tolerance, and called on people to join hands for peace and step together.

He also provided extensive information about the calls of the UN and religious leaders, the Vatican conference held in 1986, and UNESCO projects.

He noted that the Islamic world conferences, the support of Christian churches, and the projects of the Jewish community are of particular importance in the direction of the contribution of religions to peace today.

Then, the senior research fellow of the Department of History and Epigraphy of Sheki RSC, PhD Aladdin Sultanov, spoke and provided information about the beauties of the Islamic religion, the way religions are viewed today, and emphasized the important role of the event in the fight against religious radicalism, fanaticism, and terrorism.

Mushfig Khalilov, imam of the "Juma" mosque in the center of Sheki, delivered a report on the topic "All religions call for peace." He noted that September 21 is celebrated as the "International Day of Peace" all over the world.

The speaker spoke about the importance of state-religion relations in preserving peace in our country and in the world, emphasizing that President Ilham Aliyev has always been sensitive to this area and has always shown care.

Mushfig Khalilov noted that the state policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan is aimed at establishing eternal peace in the region as a result of the tireless activity of the President.

The event continued with interesting discussions.
