A scientific seminar on the topic "Our national press history starting with "Ekinchi"" was held at the Sheki Regional Scientific Center

On July 22, 2025, a scientific seminar on the topic "Our national press history starting with "Ekinchi"" was held at Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the national press.

Opening the event, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of Sheki RSC, Doctor of Philology, docent Kamil Adishirinov, greeted the participants, noted that the main goal of the event was to instill the history of our national press in the younger generation, and wished success in the work of the event.

Then the floor was given to Aynur Mammadova, an employee of the Literary and Cultural Environment, Folklore Department.

In her speech entitled "Correspondents of the "Ekinchi" newspaper", the speaker spoke about the first correspondents of the newspaper, Najaf bey Vezirov and Asker aga Adigozalov, and noted that these personalities were of special importance in the activities of "Ekinchi". He said that they were not only satisfied with writing new news for the newspaper, but also translated news they considered important from Russian-language press organizations, and these were also published on the pages of the newspaper.

Speaking on the topic "Hasan bey Zardabi and "Ekinchi"", Tural Adishirinov, a research worker at the Literary and Cultural Environment and Folklore Department, drew attention to the role of Hasan bey Zardabi in the history of the national press and the facts reflecting his national awakening activities, and emphasized that "Ekinchi" mobilized national thinkers to think about national problems and share the nation's troubles on the pages of the press.

He noted that the dedication of Hasan bey Zardabi, who remained faithful to the goal of dedicating his life to the national struggle, is a true example for modern press representatives.

Then docent  Kamil Adishirinov, looking at the "History of the Development of the Press in Sheki", said that this path, which began with "Ekinchi", expanded towards the regions of Azerbaijan and became an integral part of a great historical process. The speaker noted that with the activities of "Ekinchi", a new stage in the process of national self-awareness of the people began and, as a continuation of this process, the Sheki press, despite the difficulties, gave space to national and social issues and fought for the preservation of moral values.

Finally, the director of Sheki RSC, PhD in Physics, docent Yusif Shukurlu made a speech, congratulated the speakers, expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the organization of the event dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the "Ekinchi" newspaper, which has such important historical significance and plays an indispensable role in the formation of national consciousness, and congratulated the participants on the occasion of National Press Day.
