The waterfall was discovered in August 2023 by Elvin Garayev, an employee of Ecological Geography Department of Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS, during the research conducted in the direction of studying the ecotourism potential of the region in the Shin River, its tributaries, and the surrounding areas of Sheki region. The waterfall is located on the right bank of the Shin River, 1299 meters above sea level, on the historical Akhty-Sheki military road.

According to Qafgaz Agabalayev, head of the department of ecological geography, Ph.D. in geography, the waterfall discovered by Elvin Garayev and called "Ituchan" by local people has not been mentioned in scientific sources. The main reason why the waterfall is called "Ituchan" by the local population is due to the fact that in the past, a shepherd dog fell and died from this road where the waterfall is located. Qafgaz Agabalayev also added that if a modern tourism infrastructure is formed, the "Ituchan" waterfall can be considered a natural monument with coordinates (41°23'9"N, 47°9'17"E) falling from a height of 14 meters is promising for the development of ecotourism in the region due to its uniqueness.
