Shrem.az reports with reference to the science.gov.az website that the scientific secretary of the service of the vice president of ANAS, doctor of philosophy in agricultural sciences, docent Afig Mammadov is 60 years old.

Afig Tofig oglu Mammadov was born on July 27, 1963 in the village of Garakollu, Fuzuli district. In 1986, he graduated from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics of Baku State University. Since 1987, he has been working at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, since 2016 at the Presidium of ANAS. During the past period, he coordinated the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS and relevant field institutes, national strategy, State programs, etc. in the execution of tasks, in the preparation of annual reports, in the provision of scientific and methodological assistance to institutes, dozens of scientific conferences, congresses, seminars, etc. held by ANAS and the department took an active part in the organization of events, General meetings of the department, Scientific council meetings. By the decisions of the Presidium of ANAS, he was awarded an Honorary Decree in 2022 and an Honorary Diploma in 2023 for his work in the preparation of the scientific text of the III edition of the "Red Book" of the Republic of Azerbaijan and for his service in popularizing science.

Doctor of Philosophy in Agrarian Sciences, docent Afig Mammadov conducted research related to the creation of an information system on plant genetic resources of Azerbaijan and obtained important results. In 2005-2016, he was involved in the creation and improvement of the national network of plant genetic resources in Azerbaijan, the National Information Exchange Mechanism and its integration into world and international systems, as well as the creation and improvement of several internet platforms, as well as the regional database of the South Caucasus and Central Asia, 2006-2015 participated in the preparation of country reports on genetic resources.

Afiq Mammadov represented Azerbaijan at more than 30 international scientific events, led several international seminars and training courses was an international expert of FAO in the projects of creating information systems on plant genetic resources and preparing country reports in the republics of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkey. He led 1 international grant project, participated in several local and international projects. He is the author of more than 50 scientific works, 4 books and co-author of 1 monograph.
