A ceremony dedicated to the 32th anniversary of the tragedy of January 20 was held in ANAS, Sheki Regional Scientific Center in 19.01.2022.

The event was opened by the director of the Sheki Regional Scientific Center of ANAS, Ph.D on physics, docent Y.H. Shukurlu. The memory of our martyrs was commemorated with a minute of silence. In his speech, Yusif Shukurlu spoke about the tragedy committed by the former Soviet army, the inhumane atrocities committed against the civilian population, emphasizing the importance of this event for the freedom and independence of our people.

Head of the “Folklore and crafts” department of SRSC  I. Yusifova  said that 32 years ago, our sisters and brothers gave their lives to achieve the state independence of Azerbaijan. She added that not only January 20, but also the lives of those who rose to the peak of martyrdom in the battles for Karabakh are an example for modern youth.

Then head of "Ecological Geography" department Y.Rahimov said that  January 20 tragedy was one of the most glorious pages in the history of freedom struggle of Azerbaijani people, who fought for independence and sovereignty. He added that the events of January 20 will not be erased from the memory, and that today can be celebrated not as a tragedy, but as a history of heroism and bravery of our people.

H.Khalilov, an employee of the "Historical Heritage and Ethnography" department, spoke about the peak of martyrdom and its sanctity. He gave a detailed explanation of martyrdom from Islamic point of view. At the end, al-Fatihah was recited to the dear souls of our martyrs.
