A commemoration ceremony dedicated to the 26th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Sheki Regional Science Center of ANAS

The event was opened by the Director of SHRSC of ANAS, Ph.D., associate professor Y.H.Shukurlu who talked about the night of 25-26 February 1992, when the Armenian armed forces committed genocide against the Azerbaijanis in Khojaly by armored vehicles, military personnel of the 366th motorized rifle unit in Khankendi during the USSR and the tragic results of this crime. He said that during the occupation of Khojaly, 613 people were killed by torture, 1275 were captives, and the city with thousands of people living there was ruined in one night.

Head of the Department of "Landscape Studies" of ANAS SHRSC HM. Ph.D. H.Mustafabeyli, head of the Department of "Historical Heritage and Ethnography" R.Hasanov, head of "Ecological Geography" Y.Rahimov and others noted that the Khojaly genocide was the most terrible tragedy in the memory of the Azerbaijani people and that it is of great  importance that the truth should be  recognized worldwide.

At the end, the victims of the Khojaly genocide were commemorated with a minute of silence.
