Today, the Day of the Azerbaijani Alphabet and the Azerbaijani Language is celebrated in Azerbaijan. This significant day holds special importance as a historic milestone that highlights the preservation and development of the Azerbaijani language and the significance of adopting the Latin-based alphabet.
The Day of the Azerbaijani Alphabet and the Azerbaijani Language was established by a decree issued by National Leader Heydar Aliyev on August 9, 2001. In recognition of the complete transition to the Latin-based Azerbaijani alphabet within the country, August 1 is observed annually as this significant day.
The Azerbaijani language is a fundamental symbol of our people's national identity, national-spiritual values, cultural heritage, and statehood. Since the restoration of independence, significant steps have been taken to expand the use of the state language, preserve its purity, and pass it on to future generations. Today, preserving the richness of the Azerbaijani language, promoting its correct usage, and developing scientific, literary, and informational resources in the mother tongue remain key priorities of state policy. On the occasion of the Day of the Azerbaijani Alphabet and the Azerbaijani Language, we sincerely congratulate all our compatriots and wish everyone success in preserving the purity of our native language, enriching it, and passing it on to future generations with love.
