Heavy loss to Azerbaijanian science- docent Yusif Shukurlu passed away

Today the director of Sheki Regional Scientific Center, PhD in physics, docent Yusif Hajibala Shukurlu passed away.

Yusif Shukurlu was appointed director of Sheki Regional Scientific Center by the decision of the Presidium of ANAS on October 16, 2014, and during his tenure in this position, he made significant contributions to the scientific and organizational development of the center.

In 1975, he entered the postgraduate course of the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR, and at the same time began his work as a laboratory assistant in Sheki Regional Scientific Center. Since 1976, he has worked as a junior research worker, and in 1977, he was transferred to the Institute of Radiation Problems of ANAS, where he worked as a junior research worker until 1987, and was a senior research worker in 1987–1990.

Yusif Shukurlu defended his PhD dissertation on the topic “The effect of selenium on the molecular and supramolecular structure of fibroin”.

Since 1990, Yusif Shukurlu, who has been working in Sheki Regional Scientific Center, headed the “Biophysics” laboratory (now the Department of Ecological Biophysics) for many years and conducted fruitful scientific research in this field until 2025.

The scientist is the author of 95 scientific works, including 27 articles published in journals indexed in international scientific databases. He is the author of 2 monographs, 1 textbook and 2 fiction books, and co-author of 1 monograph. Yusif Shukurlu was also the author of 9 certificates and 5 patents.

His scientific activity also covered the field of personnel training, and contributed to the development of young researchers as the scientific supervisor of two dissertations.

Yusif Shukurlu was also a member of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union and, in addition to scientific activity, was also engaged in literary creativity. He also actively participated in international scientific cooperation as a member of the Board of Directors of the Black Sea, Caspian Sea and Central Asia Silkworms Association (BACSA) and its coordinator for Azerbaijan.

Yusif Shukurlu has earned the deep respect of his colleagues and the scientific community with his scientific and organizational activities and high personal qualities.

The dear memory of Yusif Shukurlu will always live in the memory of the Azerbaijani scientific community, and his scientific and organizational activities will remain an example for future generations.
