Academician Isa Habibbeyli: The successes of young scientists are not only their personal achievements, but also a guarantee of Azerbaijan's scientific and intellectual development

Our state, which values youth as the driving force of the country's future development, is pursuing an important policy aimed at revealing their intellectual potential, educating them on the basis of national and modern values, and ensuring their active participation in the social, economic and cultural life of society.

These ideas were voiced by ANAS President Academician Isa Habibbeyli at the event dedicated to Azerbaijan Youth Day on February 2 at the Presidium of ANAS.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the youth policy of independent Azerbaijan has been formed as an important component of the visionary statehood strategy of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and has embarked on the path of sustainable development. Today, the youth policy successfully pursued by President Ilham Aliyev is an important component of the state strategy that responds to modern challenges, is based on innovative approaches and ensures the comprehensive development of youth. The reforms implemented under the leadership of the head of state open up wide opportunities for young people to fully realize their potential in education, science, culture, sports and other areas. At the same time, Azerbaijani youth represent our country on international platforms and actively participate in the defense of our national interests. The state support provided to programs and initiatives supporting scientific and technological development creates a basis for young people to apply their knowledge and skills at a higher level.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli expressed gratitude to the head of state on behalf of the ANAS staff for the value shown to young people and the high assessment of their potential.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences also makes significant contributions to the development of scientific potential and the training of young researchers in the country. He said that the Academy pays special attention to involving young people in scientific activities, expanding their research opportunities and integrating them into modern scientific achievements: “The successes of young scientists and specialists are not only their personal achievements, but also a guarantee of the scientific and intellectual development of Azerbaijan. In this sense, the defense of dissertations of young people should be ensured, and certain difficulties that arise should be eliminated in a timely manner.”

The head of ANAS also instructed the directors of scientific institutions and organizations of the Academy to increase the positions of a group of young scientists who have shown high scientific results by 1 degree unit.

Emphasizing that today, young scientists have justified the trust shown in them by the state with their high achievements and continue to contribute to the sustainable development of the country with their knowledge and skills that meet modern challenges, the president of ANAS brought to attention that a competition for the “Young Scientist of the Year” award was recently held at the Academy.

According to the results of the competition, Elnura Huseynova, PhD in Philology, senior research fellow at the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics, was awarded the diploma and cash prize of the ANAS "Young Scientist of the Year" award. The Vice-President of the Presidium of ANAS is served by senior specialist Zeynab Hajamova, department head of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature, doctor of philosophy in philology Telli Aliyeva, junior research worker of the Ziya Bunyadov Institute of Oriental Studies, junior research worker of the Ziya Bunyadov Institute of Oriental Studies, doctoral student Gunay Bayramova, research worker of the Institute of Archeology and Anthropology, junior research worker and dissertationist Nigar Ismayilova, research worker of the Nakhchivan Department of ANAS, Kubra Valiyeva, research worker of the Manuscripts Fund of the Nakhchivan Department of ANAS, Ayshan Salmanova, research worker of the Sheki Regional Scientific Center, Mirmahammed Babayev, research worker of the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center, department head of the Ganja Department, dissertationist Simuzar Gafarli, former research worker of the Institute of Caucasian Studies, dissertationist Shargiyya Imamali, and senior specialist of the Central Scientific Library. Doctor of Philosophy in Political Sciences Zuriyya Garayeva won the ANAS “Young Scientist of the Year” nomination.

The event also announced the names of the scientific associates who published the most articles in prestigious scientific databases (Web of Science and Scopus) during 2024, as well as the top three places in terms of the number of articles, and they were awarded monetary prizes as determined by the relevant decision of the Presidium. Among those who published the most scientific articles at ANAS, the first place was taken by the Director of the MEK, Doctor of Technical Sciences Huseyn Huseynov, the second place was taken by the Director of the Seismological Service Center, Corresponding Member of ANAS Gurban Yetirmishli, the leading scientific researcher of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, Doctor of Philosophy in History Dmitry Krichenko, and the scientific secretary of the Nakhchivan Branch of the Institute of Art, Language and Literature, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Zulfiya Ismayil, and the third place was taken by the head of the department of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, Doctor of Philosophy in History Bakhtiyar Jalilov.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli presented the winners of the competition with the "Young Scientist of the Year" award diplomas of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and awards to the employees who published the most articles in prestigious scientific databases in 2024.

Then, Mirjavid Agalarov, a research fellow and doctoral student at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS, who was awarded the 2025 Presidential Prize for Youth by the relevant Decree of the President of the Republic, made a speech and expressed his gratitude to the Head of State for the high value given.

Then, the Director of the Central Scientific Library, Doctor of Technical Sciences Huseyn Huseynov, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry Elmir Babayev, Department Head of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy in Political Sciences, Associate Professor Gunel Malikli, Senior Researcher of the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Elnura Huseynova, Junior Researcher of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Academician Ziya Bunyadov Asim Jannatov, Researcher of the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center Mirmahammed Babayev and others made speeches and stated that in recent years the opportunities created for young people at ANAS have been further expanded, comprehensive conditions have been created for their scientific development, and they especially emphasized that the leadership of ANAS has always paid high attention and care to young people.

It was noted that being awarded these awards, as a manifestation of the high appreciation that our state places on the development of science, is not only a matter of pride, but also a great responsibility and a source of stimulus for future scientific activity.

In conclusion, academician Isa Habibbeyli sincerely congratulated young scientists and specialists on the occasion of February 2 - Azerbaijan Youth Day, expressing his belief that the successes of young people based on knowledge and innovation will contribute to the scientific development of the country. He wished them tireless determination, broad prospects and achievements on this path.
